Get New Clients: Leverage LinkedIn and Your Personal Brand

Post Road Consulting -Networking & Branding

Are you looking for new clients? If you’re selling exactly the same as in the 90’s you might be missing out on major opportunities. Today’s buyers and prospects are online validating you, your expertise, skills, and your overall presence. They look online and ask themselves “Is this someone I want to work with?”  or “Should I call him back?”

Referrals are now key drivers of business opportunity.  Like never before! Unfortunately, It’s a reflection of the diminished trust in our world.  Now you can expect people to view your LinkedIn profile even after someone has referred you.  Many of them are looking at your profile to decide if they trust you.  There are over 53 Million LinkedIn profile views each day!

The good news is that you can impact your personal brand. You have complete control about whether your brand will impress a prospect or not.  LinkedIn is now the best place for professionals to display their authentic brand.

Most people won’t hire you just because of your employment history or education so why leave it at that? Your prospective clients want to learn your story; see your affiliations and connections; understand your approach, and see what you care and write about.  They want to see your photo and other relevant images or videos. Some of them are specifically looking at your posts and other content.

Each of us has our own brand. It encompasses our professional expertise, values, vision, thought leadership, and personality. Personal branding has become important to companies, organizations, schools, and individuals. An employee with an effective and polished personal brand is more valuable to the employer. A distinct personal brand displayed on LinkedIn will help a sales representative to land an appointment, a recruiter to impress a candidate, and a job seeker land a new position.

Considering that we all have brands, the real question is whether we work on it or invest in it. Do we just let our accomplishments speak for themselves? Shouldn't everyone just know how well we have performed? Should we try to shape the opinions that others have of us?  Should we be putting effort into shaping perceptions?

Think about it: only you can manage your brand. You can't count on your co-worker or your spouse or your past clients to do this. You also shouldn't assume that your referral and industry partners will remember your achievements. LinkedIn will help remind them and put your best self forward online.

Today’s professionals now expect potential prospects to research them on LinkedIn. According to a LinkedIn study, 49% of buyers look at LinkedIn profiles to find a vendor. What are you doing to impress your prospects today?
