Sandra Long

Dear friends,

May was an incredible month for me and I feel so grateful.

The first thing was a complete surprise. I was named a LinkedIn Top Voice. This was a shock and it's also unclear how people are chosen for this distinction. I do know that it is based on content creation and being a trusted LinkedIn member. There are plenty of amazing LinkedIn creators who do not have this distinction, so maybe there is some additional random element at play.

The second big thing for May was the release of my newest book Jumpstart Your LinkedIn Profile: 67 Actionable Tips. This new book is much shorter and strictly focused on the profile. Readers of LinkedIn for Personal Branding and Supercharge will benefit from it........ and there will also be brand new readers. Info and links related to my newest book are below.

Let's focus on the new LinkedIn features first.

LinkedIn Updates – May 2024

For Companies /Universities/ Organizations:

πŸ‘‰ Most organizations now have access to the featured content. This is a wonderful feature, so check that you have it now. You can view this feature on the Post Road Consulting company page.

πŸ‘‰ Don't like the pull-through image on your page post? I am hearing we can now upload another image (think thumbnail) but I haven't tried it yet myself.

πŸ‘‰ Organizations can verify the email domains of employees now. This is good news. There are some unscrupulous people online who fake their employers.

For Job Seekers

πŸ‘‰ Job seekers who are interested in an internal role can now send a signal to the HR team. You can signify your interest in a new role and identify the job titles you are focused on, plus locations and types of work. This internal signal lasts for up to 6 months and you can change it at any time. Good news.

πŸ‘‰Job seekers are wise to access company job tabs in addition to the main jobs section on LinkedIn. You can view employees who have similar titles to your recommended jobs. Use this research to understand the role better or develop relationships that might be beneficial within that company.

For Salespeople and Fundraisers /Development Teams:

πŸ‘‰Most of the Sales Navigator updates are related to CRM integration. Here is the list of changes since April.

For Premium Members

πŸ‘‰If you are a Premium business user, service provider matches will be made available if you are part of the service provider program. This service provider match allows members to send a request for proposal to additional providers if they wish. Providers are matched based on services, location, and language. Turn on this special feature in your services admin area. Under settings, activate "Get more project requests." If the prospect has received 10 proposals, you can no longer engage with this opportunity. This means you need to act fast with the best prospects.

πŸ‘‰ Want to grow your network? LinkedIn is now making peer suggestions. This is an AI-powered custom list of recommendations based on mutual interests and activity. It's called "Premium Peer Suggestions." Let me know if you use this and if it is helpful.

πŸ‘‰ LinkedIn is now showing off premium features at the top of the feed to encourage you to sign up OR to remind you why you have already done so.

πŸ‘‰ Some AI features are available only for premium members. For example, a newer feature called "Ideas for your next post," it uses AI to consider your prior posts, engagement, profile, network, and trending topics to suggest. I will be checking this out and let you know what I think.

πŸ‘‰ Consider adding a "request services" button to the Services section of a premium profile.

For Creators:

πŸ‘‰ AI is creeping in everywhere! Look for suggested comments and now suggested emojis.

πŸ‘‰ I heard that "Answer a Question" is coming to the home feed / Start a Post section. That will be interesting.

πŸ‘‰ Look for "unique views" which are added to Post analytics. This is probably a better indicator than just "views" or "impressions," however, it's just an estimate.

πŸ‘‰ Video Tab Beta. You may remember that I am on the Beta test for this new TikTok-like feature. I believe that the feature is rolling out to more people. Find it on the bottom nav bar of the mobile app. Notice that the videos are in vertical format. As a Beta tester, I can't upload directly. I can post a video and send it to LinkedIn hoping they will add it to this special feed. I haven't done this yet. I will keep you posted.

πŸ‘‰ Creator mode is causing some confusion as the overall feature is being moved to become "available for all." For now, find it at the bottom of your analytics. Stay tuned.

Interesting for all:

πŸ‘‰ LinkedIn Games are here. I think game players will love it. Check out my post

πŸ‘‰ Bell πŸ”” ringing upgrade. There are now 3 options for subscribing to creator posts. These choices include All, Most Relevant, and Off. Nice. Find everyone's bell at the Introduction Card of the profile (top of fold.)

πŸ‘‰ LinkedIn is now labeling AI-generated image, video, and audio content. Look for the (cr) label. I applaud this move.

πŸ‘‰ Messaging options are expanding. Press down directly on a message to find the options of reply, forward, share, or copy.

πŸ‘‰ Someone told me about new hotkeys on the desktop but I don't use hotkeys. Maybe I should figure these out if it saves time. What do you think?

πŸ‘‰ Look for the ability to "invite all" to an event. I am very interested in this, but it sounds like you need to be careful. I will investigate and send more info about this later.

πŸ‘‰ There are more AI features for your profile but I am not a fan, at least so far. You can now upload a resume and have AI place it in the LinkedIn profile sections. Here's my problem: your LinkedIn profile should be much more engaging and customized than a resume. I suppose it could help when doing the initial setup but be sure to modify with your insights and personalization.

πŸ‘‰ Messaging tabs are clarified and under "Focused" folder in Mobile under "Focused." Your folders include Focused, Other, Archived, and Spam. Basically, we will have easier messaging options on mobile. Read this article from Social Media Today.

πŸ‘‰ Searching for people is now more streamlined with fewer steps. Find the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level filters directly as you start a people search.
